Empowerment through skills
Palms Together is not only about weaving products; it is about weaving leaders. Women who once considered themselves simply “makers” are now trainers, mentors, and entrepreneurs guiding others.
Leadership in action
At a recent workshop in Colombo, women from different centres came together to learn about bookkeeping, costing, and marketing. They exchanged ideas, shared experiences, and left with new confidence. Leaders like Kavida and Pathmini are now guiding younger women in their villages — showing that artisan work can be dignified, sustainable, and future-focused.
Community role models
These women are breaking barriers. For many, it is the first time they are stepping into leadership roles within their communities. Their visibility inspires younger girls, showing them that resilience and creativity can lead to independence.
The bigger picture
With international partners like the Avery Dennison Foundation offering support, Palms Together is positioning women of the North and East not just as artisans, but as changemakers.
As Dr. Mira notes: “Leadership is as important as craft. When women lead, they lift entire communities with them.”
